- "Rainclaw!" Bristlepelt ran forward, her paws sloshing through the mud, her mate gasping for each life-sustaining breath.
- So wide the world
- "I'll get the medicine cat! Falcondaze!"
- Rainclaw swallowed his own blood down, so he could speak to Bristlepelt. "It's no use. Just let it go, Bristlepelt."
- "No!" She screamed. "I'll....I'll never let you go!"

- "I can't stay here. I have to go....to....I'm going to die today, Bristlepelt."
- She raised her lips in a snarl. "I won't let it happen." Rainclaw had never heard her voice so filled with the cold.

- "Who did this to you?" She asked, harsher than she'd meant to.
- "I...." Rainclaw hesitated, but didn't make it seem like so by coughing. "I....don't know."
- So many fears were swimming around and around in my mind
- Rainclaw was surprised to hear sorrow in Bristlepelt's voice. "What about....."
- "Our kits?" They both said, at the same time
- Who would've dreamed the secrets we would find
- "They'll grow up to be strong warriors," He said weakly. It was the only thing he could think of to say, when a thousand thoughts were clouding his mind.
- "They'll avenge your death. They'll kill every cat in the forest until they've found your murderer. I would kill every cat in the forest, just to have you stay with me!"
- I've found a world where love and dreams and darkness all collide
- "You have to go now," Rainclaw said. He felt his heart beating slower and slower with each passing breath. "I don't have long."

- We can leave our broken world behind
