Chapter 1: A new Beginning []
“Let all cats old enough to catch their own prey gather beneath the High Tree for a Clan meeting!”
As soon as Briarstar yowled out the words, four young cats tumbled out of the nursery in a blur of messy fur and bright, eager eyes.
“We’re going to be apprentices!”
“Yeah, I’m going to catch all the prey in the forest!”
No, you won’t. I’ll do that and rip off a fox’s mangy old pelt!”
Unaware that a dark ginger tabby was padding across the grassy clearing towards them, the four siblings kept of squabbling like seagulls until their mother started grooming their tangled fur with hasty licks.
“Look at yourselves, kittens! You look exactly like thorn bushes! Your ceremony’s about to start; we can’t have you looking like this.” One disgusting heartbeat later and the young’uns were sleeker than otters and were waiting impatiently on the lowest branch of the High Tree.
“Today, I, Briarstar, leader of HurricaneClan am proud to make these foour kits, all of whom have reached the age of six moons, apprentices.
