Prologue

Cloudstar watched his clanmates fighting Lightclan there going to drive us out! he thought sickly, his daughter Plumwhisker was grappling with a tom that was almost twice her size. Alderfur he suddenly remembered his mate was carrying his secant litter of kits he charged through the fighting warriors. Cloudstar spotted her behind an orange she-cat landing quick blows to her chest. He barreled into the she-cat. "Get off her" he hissed at the she-cat and landed a stinging blow to her muzzle. He bit down hard on her shoulder and she screamed and ran into the bushes. "Thanks" she panted Cloudstar nodded to out of breath to reply "you need to get out of here" he said looking at her swollen belly and they ran towards the bushes. He saw Hollowfern, a clan elder caught up in the chaos.

"Stay here" he meowed to Alderfur

"Ok" she responded quietly. He ran towards Hollowfern but before he got to her a small she-cat leaped in his way "not so fast" she hissed Cloudstar stopped himself from rolling his eyes she was barley more than an apprentice. She leaped at him, he winced; her claws were surprisingly sharp drops of blood sprayed onto her long tan pelt. He growled and shook her off "get off me you stupid kit" he cursed and sprinted to Hollowfern.

"C'mon lets get you to a safer place" he meowed wearily

"Yes" she agreed. He looked and saw all the cats locked in battle his cats there's no way to win he thought in despair. "Leafclan retreat" he yelled over the noise "Cloudstar no" a she-cat wailed

"yes run away mousehearts" called a tom. Cloudstar took one last look at his home before he lead his clanmates away.

Chapter one

Emberpaw stretched and flexed her claws; she spotted her brother Larkpaw sleeping in the nest next to her. She yawned and made her way out of the apprentices den. Emberpaw's mentor Swallowtail walked over to her

"oh good you're here" she purred "let's go on a border patrol."

"Sounds good" Emberpaw replied. They walked up to Nightwhisper

"can we go on a patrol?" Swallowtail asked

"of course" Nightwhisper answered "you can go around the border by Lea- I mean Lightclan take whoever you want with you." Swallowtail nodded in thanks Emberpaw noticed Larkpaw was awake and talking to his mentor Stonefoot.

"Lets take Stonefoot and Larkpaw with us" she suggested

"good idea" Swallowtail agreed.

"Do you want to go on a patrol with us?" Emberpaw asked Stonefoot

"um okay" Stonefoot replied.

As they were walking in the forest Emberpaw couldn't help thinking about what Nightwhisper said. She thought back to when Lightclan drove Leafclan out of their territory. Uneasiness squirmed in her belly as she remembered the screams of Leafclan as they fled the forest. I wish I could of helped them, she thought guiltily Stonefoot started renewing the scent markers. "HEY" a tom yelled angrily from across the border. She whipped around and saw a white tom staring furiously at them "what are you doing here?" he growled

"This is our territory" Swallowtail hissed

"For now" the cat smirked "and watch your step because if anyone puts one paw over the border ill shred them." And crept back into the shadows. Larkpaw rolled his eyes "lets keep going" he sighed seemingly unbothered by the tom. She shuddered thinking about what he said

"don't be worried" Larkpaw meowed recognizing the nervous twitch of her tail "he's just a crazy foxheart."

"Thanks" she said, slightly embarrassed when they got back to camp Emberpaw headed into the apprentices den and laid down in her nest thinking about everything that happened.

Chapter two

Emberpaw sighed as she collected moss for the elders bedding.

"This is so boring" she complained to Springpaw

"yeah" she agreed Emberpaw grabbed a bundle of moss and started back to camp with Springpaw behind her. They set it down so Larkpaw could make it into nests. Swallowtail headed towards them "Emberpaw!" she meowed "come on i'm going to tech you some battle moves."

"Finally" she grinned scampering after her. They entered the training hollow

"now watch me carefully" she told Emberpaw. She leaped, twisted and slashed the air with unsheathed claws and landed on her paws. "Now you try" swallowtail meowed "ok" she replied. She jumped into the air and clumsily swiped her paws through the air and landed on three paws.

"Try again but this time leap higher" Swallowtail instructed. Emberpaw tried again but this time she landed gracefully on all four paws.

"Good job" her mentor praised "now let's try a different move."

Emberpaw stretched her whole body ached from battle training she groaned. "At least you got to train. I had to change the elders bedding" Larkpaw complained

"It wasn't that fun" she pointed out

"yeah but I bet it was better than cleaning bedding," he said wrinkling his nose.

"I guess" she sighed and laid down as she drifted into a deep sleep. She looked at the sky, it sparkled with hundreds of stars Starclan! She realized suddenly a bush rustled and a she-cat emerged, her black pelt shimmered with stars. "H-hello" she stammered intimated by the starry cat.

"Hello Emberpaw" she laughed "my name is Hollybranch."

"What am I doing here" she asked "oh no am I DEAD" she gasped.

"no you're here so I can give you a prophecy" Hollybranch replied

"A prophecy? shouldn't you give it to Rosestar or Stormeye?" Emberpaw asked curiously.

"No Starclan choose you" she reassured her

"um ok" she responded still taking everything in.

"Ready"? Hollybranch asked Emberpaw nodded "Rooted deep in the clan an evil lurks, the darkest of the clans shall bring back the leaves that have been burned by the light of the Blazing fire" she finished. Almost immediately after she was done starclan started to fade. "Goodbye" Hollybranch meowed and Emberpaw was whipped back into reality.
