Prologue[]
Mapleshade sat on the almost black rock and stared down at the cats gathered below.
"So, what did you bring us here for, Mapleshade?" One cat snarled, "Or are you just going to sit there?" The cat that spoke was Snowtuft. I glared at him, and he looked away with a roll of his eyes.
"As you don't know, Tigerstar, Hawkfrost, and Brokenstar, and whoever else was killed in the battle, have found a way back to the Dark Forest." She meowed, beckoning with her tail to where the three brown tabbies stalked out.
"The clans won't even remember the last battle, it's been quite a few years since then." Tigerstar growled, his tail lashing.
"The point is, we're going to attack the clans again." Hawkfrost summarized. "And we need all of you to find cats to train. And tell them what we're doing. If they say no, get rid of them." All the gathered cats shared eager looks, and shifted where they were.
"BUT, we have found a way to watch the clans, just like StarClan." She added "We found a pool, there, if we say what cat we want to see, we will be able to watch them"
"Wow, Mapleshade, how long was I gone? I must have been gone longer then I thought for you to find this!" Tigerstar asked
"About two minutes, I'm just better at preparing then you." A murmer of amusement rose from the crowd and Mapleshade flicked her tail for silence. "All joking aside, we need to find allies. Shadestorm, come here!" A black and white she-cat with dark blue eyes padded to the front of the group of cats.
"Yes?" She asked with a flick of her tail
"I want you to find any cat that would be good for the battle." She answered.
Shadestorm looked about to challenge Mapleshade’s idea, but she only meowed "Yes."
Mapleshade padded back into the shadowy den, and the cats broke into groups and started murrmering excitedly "I know exactly who to bring!" a ShadowClan cat named Snakethorn, boasted "Fangstar!"
"Your leader?" Darkstripe asked blankly
"Yes! He tried to kill Fernnose, her kits, and Hollytail!" Snakethorn replied. Hollytail's head shot up at her name
"Bring Fangstar here?! That is an awful idea!" She retorted, her tail lashing
"He could turn the whole of ShadowClan against the clans." Snakethorn spat
"Or against us!" Darkstripe chimed in.
"Stop arguing!" Mapleshade interfered "If Fangstar does betray us, Snakethorn, you will have a harder cat to get rid of. Bring whoever tomorrow night."
Chapter One- Shadestorm[]
Shadestorm opened her eyes to early morning sunlight pouring into the den. She padded out, finding her apprentice, Lithepaw, waiting for her.
”You’re up early.” She commented with a flick of her tail
"I know! I just really want to get started!" He replied eagerly
"Right..." Shadestorm remembered that this was his first day being an apprentice. I suppose I shouldn't be mad at him. A light brown tom padded up to her, and she realized it was the deputy, Dustedtail. He then told her to meet with Foxfur and Curltail for the dawn patrol. She padded up beside Foxfur, who was a russet colored she-cat with brown eyes, and Curltail, who was a cream colored she-cat with light yellow eyes. "We should check the SkyClan border." Shadestorm suggested. They nodded and set off, with Curltail's apprentice, Sparrowpaw, tagging behind. They soon arrived at the border and begun renewing the scent markers.
Foxfur's nose twitched suddenly, and she let out a low growl "I smell Rouge."
"You and Shadestorm can go check the scent, the apprentices and I can finish this!" Curltail mewed, and they both nodded, while Lithepaw and Sparrowpaw sighed.
"Why can't we go looking for the Rouge?" Sparrowpaw asked, with a disappointed look on his face
"Because your mentor said so!" Foxfur snapped. They huffed and continued marking the border. She turned to Shadestorm and growled "Let's go"
A few minutes later, an acrid scent filled her lungs. Foxfur had smelled it too, judging by the look on her face. Suddenly, a black she-cat with amber eyes leaped out of a small den.
"Who are you, and what are you doing on my territory!?" The rouge snarled
"Your territory! This is ThunderClan's territory!" Shadestorm hissed, shocked at the cat's words.
"Let me handle this." Foxfur whispered under her breath. "What is your name?"
"Phantom" She replied dryly, her tail lashing
"Phantom? What kind of name is that?" Shadestorm snorted. This made Phantom (and Foxfur) even angrier.
"SHADESTORM! QUIET!" Foxfur spat
"Why? She is on our territory, and claiming it as her own!" She retorted. She saw Phantom risk glance at the bushes, and Shadestorm felt herself bristle. "Think your going somewhere?" The she-cat gave a brisk nod and bolted past them. She followed, brambles snagging her pelt as she tore across the land. In front of her she saw a black tail bobbing up and down. The rouge soon lost her, and Shadestorm stopped, panting, and blood starting to well up on her flank.
"Shadestorm wha- why are you acting like a kit?" Foxfur hissed as the red she-cat padded up. "Well, come on. Let's report to Yellowstar."
Chapter Two- Hollytail[]
Hollytail sighed, remembering Snakethorn's idea about bringing Fangstar to the Dark Forest. Her sister, Bounceshine, padded up to sit beside her
"You okay?" She asked
"Urm, yes! W-what makes you a-ask?" Hollytail stammered
Her sister snorted "Just the fact that you're glaring at Fangstar and Poisonthorn."
"Need I remind you that Fangstar tried to kill me, and Snakethorn just stood there!" Hollytail spat, feeling her fur start to bristle. Bounceshine looked surprised
"Well, yes, but.." Bounceshine trailed off, seeing her point.
"Just leave me alone!" She snarled, before racing out of camp. She doesn't know how it feels. She hissed in her mind. She new some other cats shared her hatred, for example, Shadestorm of ThunderClan, or Crowheart of WindClan. The feeling that all the cats you loved and trusted, betrayed you. Exactly, that was exactly how she felt. Longing sweapt over her as she remembered her mother, the only cat who liked, or cared for her. Her father, Bumbleclaw, and her Brother, Scorchdust, had always hated her, picking on her and teasing her.
"At least they're dead." Hollytail muttered sourly. A wave of agony swept over her. Spinning around, she saw a calico she-cat. The collar showed that she was a kittypet "What do you want, Kittypet?!"
The cat let out a snort "I'm Voltictricts, but they call me Volt. And you are are my enemy!"
"Oh, is that so?" Hollytail's voice was low and soft, and her next words sounding more like a snake then cat "I'm Hollytail, they call me Hollytail, and I suggest you leave before I show you how much of enemies we are."
The expression on her face showed that she wasn't going to leave, so, Hollytail sprang at her. The kittypet was caught off-guard, and mistimed her strike, Volt's claws only raking the air. Hollytail then lashed out, tearing her ears.
"You have no honor!" Volt snarled, breaking away. Neither do you She thought. The cat gave one last glare, and turned tail and fled, leaving drops of blood behind. The clouds were pale pink. Almost Time.
Chapter Three- Crowheart[]
The full moon shone above the island as the clans sat, talking among themselves.
"Where in the name of StarClan is ShadowClan?" A cat next to Crowheart growled.
