Of course. Will there be a special feature for that (like the stars and the bottom of every page) or will people just post their ratings on the disscusion page? Man, this is going to be hard... If there's anything that I'm missing on my poor little lay-out (I'm sure that I am, I did that in like 5 minutes, and I think there'll have to be more sub-sub categories...) please post it here; or if you think my version is horrible altogether post your own. Oh, and will we tolerate violence/sexual situations/anything else younger kids shouldn't read? If we do I think we'll have to put it under ratings (like kit, apprentice, warrior for PG-or G-, PG-13 and all that crap.) Gosh, so many little details... Forums: Index > Watercooler > Categories

Once we get around 20 or so stories we might want to start organizing them into categories. I know someone's probably already planning this but I was wondering what they would be. What were any of you thinking? I thought that maybe we could have three general categories: Canon, Non-Canon, and Role Play. Then we could break it down with sub-categories or something (not exactly sure what you call everything here) like Canon Humor, Non-Canon Romance, and General Role Play. Of course someone (or all of us) will have to look over them and find out which one it is, but we'll probably have to do that anyways. Whaddya think? Snowbird23 18:38, 14 July 2008 (UTC)

Sure, why not?Wolfstar13 20:38, 14 July 2008 (UTC)

I think some "general" categories should be Canon-based, Canon-influenced, and Entirely Non-Canon. To define them, a Canon-based fanfic is a story based on an event that has happened in the books or is clearly implied by the books. A Canon-influenced fanfic is a story which makes reference to Canon characters or events, but is clearly based off of Non-Canon ideas as well. An Entirely Non-Canon fanfic is a story which makes no reference to canon characters or events. They can be further divided into subcategories, such as Canon-based Battle for a story of another cat fighting at the battle with BloodClan, Canon-influenced Quest for a story of SkyClan going to the Lake while being guided by Firestar's spirit, and keep Romance and Humor subcategories for each. *swifty* 23:22, 29 July 2008 (UTC)

Oh yeah, that makes sense. Gotta make sure people don't get too confused though. Can't think of what to do other than what you and I thought up. I'm racking my brain, trying to think of what all the other fanfic sites I've been on do... Ack! There's just so may categories... Hmmm. I'll try to make a rough outline soon, get back to ya on that... (I've been attacked my the "..." curse!...) Snowbird23 23:02, 18 August 2008 (UTC)

Okay, I sorta put togeher a couple of things. Man, how the heck to these other sites do it? I lost my mind! So here it is. Gotta go find my brain, Snowbird23 00:44, 19 August 2008 (UTC)

I also think that we should potentially have a quality FanFic category, with some of our users designating them as quality. Swifty{Asterisks} 01:32, 19 August 2008 (UTC)

If there is a very inappropriate story, the best idea is immediately put in a vote about whether the content should be removed (5 yes votes with no opposition qualify for instant deletion), and, for things that are "on the line", censoring might work, or deletion vote.
