Ever since the clans have moved to the desert, their system has fallen apart. The clans, the warrior code, their belief in StarClan, everything. Once the move was complete, ShadowClan had the power to take over and enslave what remained of the three clans. With everything the clan cats had ever knew gone, the whole system had changed to monarchy. The ShadowClan leader, Thistlestar has become the supreme leader of all cats. All the rest of the old clan cats are now the enslaved. They do all of the dirty work while ShadowClan doesn't have to lift a paw.

Sandpaw is a hunters apprentice and a very good one at that. Being from ancient Windclan, she has earned her reputation as one of the best hunter’s apprentices among the enslaved. Thistlestar had begun to notice the young apprentice's skills and chooses her to become and elite. When a young apprentice is chosen for the elite it means you are the best of the best at your special skill. Sandpaw must now travel to the ShadowClan camp to train for the deserted, a competition that strands you out deep in the heart of the desert. Sandpaw must find her way back to ShadowClan before the harsh elements get the best of her.
